Bahrain light rail network

The Bahrain light rail network is a public transport project in Bahrain.^[1][2]

Routes

Several different lines are planned:^[3]

• Blue Line, from Jufair to the Northern city and Badea;
• Brown Line, from Manama to the University and Bahrain Circle;
• Green Line, Jufair-Manama-Seef;
• Orange Line, from the airport to Diar Island;
• Pink Line, connecting Hamad City, Refa, Isa, Sitra, and South Manama;
• Red Line, from the airport through Manama to the Qatar-Bahrain causeway.

Project

The project was unveiled in 2008, with construction planned to start in 2009.^[4] However, construction has been repeatedly delayed. By December 2009, construction was expected to start in 2011.^[5] Consultants were prequalified in 2010;^[6] as of January 2010, the project was still awaiting budgetary approval^[7] but it was hoped that construction could begin before the end of 2012.^[8]

The first phase, including 24km of light rail network, is expected to cost BD453 million. Subsequent phases will cost more.^[9]
